About This Talk
Professor Pérez-Ramírez will discuss recent examples from his laboratory illustrating how nanoscale engineering in the understanding of catalysed processes can kindle revolutionary technological advancements. Specifically, he will demonstrate the importance of precisely controlling the nuclearity and speciation of supported metals, revealing how even slight structural changes in low-nuclearity catalysts, such as the addition or removal of a single atom, can switch the desired performance on or off.
He will present case studies in CO2 valorisation, polyvinyl chloride manufacture, hydrogenations, and organic syntheses that also exemplify approaches for nanoscale engineering, with emphasis on scalable and versatile methods. Throughout the talk, he will also highlight current frontiers in the synthesis and characterisation to improve catalyst design. There will be 10 minutes for a short Q&A session.
This talk will not be recorded, so do attend in-person.
Biography
Professor Pérez-Ramírez is a Professor of Catalysis Engineering at ETH Zurich. His research pursues the nanoscale design of catalytic materials enabling the transition toward sustainable chemical and energy production. He has been recognised by several awards, most recently the Paul H. Emmett Award in Fundamental Catalysis for the North American Catalysis Society in 2019 and the EFCATS Robert K. Grasselli Award for Catalysis in 2021.
He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Catalysis Science and Technology and holds the Isaac Manasseh Meyer Chair as a Visiting Professor at NUS. He directs NCCR Catalysis (www.nccr-catalysis.ch), a Swiss Centre of Competence in Research devoted to the development of carbon-neutral chemicals across the entire value chain through catalytic processes.
RSVP Details
All attendees should register via Eventbrite (on the right sidebar).
As we are located in the CREATE building, we require attendees without CREATE access cards to fill in some pre-event information to issue visitor passes and as building management procedures in the event of an emergency. You will be contacted via email to fill in these details.
Registration will close at 10 am on Monday 27th June.
