Stephen SHARP
Senior Statistician
Stephen Sharp has an MA (first class) in Mathematics from St Catherine’s College, Oxford and an MSc (distinction) in Medical Statistics from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).  He worked as a Lecturer at LSHTM and then as a Biostatistics Manager at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) before joining the University of Cambridge MRC Epidemiology Unit in 2006, where he leads the statistics work of the Statistics and Data Science team.   
Stephen and his team play an integral part in the research of all the scientific programmes in the Epidemiology Unit. This includes taking the lead on some of the major analyses and providing advice to Unit scientists on aspects of study design, analysis, interpretation and reporting of results.  He has contributed to many peer-reviewed publications based on research undertaken in the Epidemiology Unit, as well as providing input into external studies as part of the Cambridge Epidemiology and Trials Unit.  He collaborates regularly with academic researchers in other departments of Cambridge University, as well as at the University of Leicester, New York University Abu Dhabi and the University of Hong Kong.    
Stephen is a Lecturer on the University of Cambridge MPhil in Population Health Sciences, a member of the Data Monitoring and Safety Committee for some external clinical trials, and a statistical reviewer for Diabetologia. From 2010-2021 Stephen was a member of a Technology Appraisal Committee for the UK National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
