The Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore Ltd. (CARES) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Cambridge. CARES collects personal data only where necessary to respond to enquiries, administer events, distribute newsletters, and improve our website. By voluntarily providing your personal data (for example, through Microsoft Forms, newsletter sign-ups, or email correspondence), you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal data for these purposes in accordance with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).
This page explains what personal data we collect when you visit the CARES website (https://www.cares.cam.ac.uk) and details how that information is used, including personal data in the possession of third-party services, such as Google Analytics, which we have engaged to collect, use, disclose or process personal data to manage your relationship with us.
The University of Cambridge remains the data controller for this website, and CARES is held to the standards outlined in the University’s privacy policy page and data protection page. In addition to the University’s policies, CARES is based in Singapore and complies with the PDPA.

Third-party websites
Google Analytics
When you visit https://www.cares.cam.ac.uk we use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out visitor behaviour to improve user experience on the website and update content. No data specific to any identifiable user is retained, and we do not share our data with any other Google services. Aggregated data is retained by the CARES Google Analytics administrator for a period of 14 months before it is cleared.

Email Octopus
Users who sign up for our newsletter via Email Octopus are willingly sharing their name and email address with the CARES web administrator. CARES will use basic analytics from Email Octopus to manage our relationship with our audience, such as viewing open and click rates. On our current Email Octopus plan, we can view granular data such as which emails are triggering certain clicks. The granular data is held in our administrator database for 30 days before it is cleared; thereafter, we will only view aggregated information such as the open and click rate. Subscribers can choose to unsubscribe at any time via the link in the newsletter’s footer, or by emailing the CARES web administrator, Iffah Azlin, iffah.azlin@cares.cam.ac.uk.
Microsoft Forms
Users who sign up for our mailing list for in-person and hybrid events are willingly sharing their name, company, title, and email address with the CARES web administrator. CARES requires this information to tailor emails to the subscriber’s interest. The information being held is used to create better and more unique engagement with our subscribers. When receiving an event email, the CARES web administrator will preface the reason for the subscriber receiving an email. The subscriber can choose to remove themself from the CARES mailing list at any time by emailing Olivia Lee, olivia.lee@cares.cam.ac.uk.
Users who sign up for our events will use a Microsoft Form to register information such as name, company, title, email address, dietary restrictions, and accessibility. CARES requires this information to register and contact you about your attendance at the event, carry out administrative and planning activities for the event, plan and develop future activities and opportunities, facilitate your requirements concerning the event, and allow the compilation and analysis of statistics relevant to the event. Personal data is stored securely by CARES in accordance with data management practices and security, as instructed by the University of Cambridge.
Embedded YouTube videos
Our website may contain embedded videos hosted on YouTube. If you interact with these videos, YouTube may collect information about your device and usage, and may set cookies in accordance with YouTube’s and Google’s privacy policies.
