Development of advanced catalysts for electrochemical carbon abatement (eCO2RR)

eCO2RR is one of nine high-impact research initiatives launched under the CREATE Thematic Programme in Decarbonisation, hosted by the National University of Singapore since October 2024. NUS will work together with CREATE partners to implement the programme. eCO2RR is a collaborative effort between City Univ HK, CARES, NTU, NUS and A*STAR.

CARES and eCO2RR

The project focuses on the design and synthesis of next-generation electrocatalysts to drive the conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added chemicals and fuels. It is a critical component of Singapore’s strategy to move away from fossil-based feedstocks and build a sustainable, circular carbon economy.

The research at CARES is currently focusing on modelling of electrode surface local microenvironment, gas diffusion electrode design optimisation, reactor scale-up flow dynamics and decoupling competitive kinetics during the electrochemical CO2 reduction processes.

This research project (“eCO2RR”) is part of the CREATE Thematic Programme in Decarbonisation and is supported by the National Research Foundation, Prime Minister’s Office, Singapore under its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE) programme. This is one of nine projects supported by NRF’s new SGD$90m CREATE Thematic Programme in Decarbonisation announced in July 2024.
