Profile

Dr Andrew YORK
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Dr Andrew York is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge working on the PIPS project "Building a Capability in Magnetic Resonance Methods for the Pharmaceutical and Agrochemical Sector within PIPS".
Andrew has a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Oxford, 25 years of experience at Johnson Matthey’s global R&D centre, and holds honorary research positions at the Universities of Liverpool, Glasgow and Birmingham. His work spans catalysis, emissions control, reaction engineering, functional materials, and the development of advanced characterisation methods. He has also led engine test research exploring the impact of emerging fuels and powertrains on emissions. He has been at the forefront of major academic collaborations worldwide and published over 150 peer reviewed papers across the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and materials science.
His more recent contributions in catalysis and materials design are through high throughput synthesis and characterisation, and the development of operando and in situ techniques such as X ray tomography, MRI, neutron imaging, and spatially resolved reaction monitoring, as well as more accessible low field NMR for rapid materials analysis.
Andrew’s work focuses on bridging fundamental science with industrial application, enabling collaborative innovation across disciplines.
