Aksel ÅNESTAD

Research Fellow

Aksel Ånestad did his doctorate research in Energy and Process Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where he conducted experimental investigations on the dynamic behaviour and exhaust emissions from a sequentially staged model combustor. His research focused on the effect of hydrogen addition and staging on thermoacoustic stability, as well as the effect of staging on the exhaust emissions from premixed NH₃/H₂/N₂-air flames.

In 2025, he joined CARES as part of the HYCOMBS project under the supervision of Professor Nicholas A. Worth and Professor Epaminondas Mastorakos. His current work focuses on the dynamic behaviour of sequentially staged combustion systems, with an emphasis on experimental work to measure and model the response of staged flames to forced acoustic perturbations. This is an important step in the development of flexible combustion systems that are well-suited for diverse carbon-free fuels.
