Dr Tianran ZHANG
Tianran Zhang received his Ph.D. in Material of Physics and Chemistry from Nankai University in 2014. Following his graduate studies, he worked as a research assistant in Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China for 1 year. After that, he worked as a research fellow in NUS for one and half years under supervision of Prof. Jim Yang Lee. He was transferred to CARES in 2017; again under the supervision of Prof. LEE.
While at CARES, his research focused on development of novel, low cost electro-catalysts for metal air batteries and electrochemical technologies for water treatment. He was a Research Fellow on the C4T IRP 2 programme.
The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are important for metal air batteries and fuel cells but suffers from sluggish kinetics. Although noble metal catalysts like Pt, Ir, Ru exhibit excellent comprehensive performance to accelerate the ORR and OER, their high price, scarcity, weak stability and crossover effect hinder the widespread application.
