The CARES team at our booth in EXPO@Singapore Maritime Week 2026.
As a global hub for maritime trade and the world’s largest bunkering port, Singapore continues to play a critical role in driving maritime decarbonisation efforts.
2026 marks the 20th edition of Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) and CARES’ participation for the third year running. Events like SMW underscore the importance of sustained collaboration across academia, industry and government, with global leaders convening to exchange ideas and advance the industry.
CARES remains committed to contributing to the shared goals of decarbonisation with our participation in EXPO@SMW with a booth from 21–23 April. We engaged with stakeholders across the maritime ecosystem to share our latest research and explore opportunities for collaboration.
With over 20,000 participants from nearly 80 countries and regions, CARES continues to look forward to the event as a valuable platform to connect university R&D with industry needs.

Harikrishnan (LCER Research Fellow), top right: Dr Yong Ren Tan (HYCOMBS Research Fellow (Project Manager)), bottom left: Mei Qi Lim (Researcher from Prof Markus Kraft’s group).
Our researchers showcased work from our hydrogen and ammonia combustion programme (HYCOMBS), ammonia combustion as part of the Low-Carbon Energy Research (LCER) programme, and digital tools such as The World Avatar™ for understanding maritime environmental impact.
In parallel, the outreach team explained the reasons for CARES having Singapore as our base and our set-up within the CREATE research ecosystem.

Dr Li Chin Law (HYCOMBS Senior Research Fellow and Founder of EMICAST) and Dr Yichen Zong (HYCOMBS Senior Research Fellow and Founder of 3Y Energy) interact with attendees at our booth.
Visitors also engaged with our spin-offs: 3Y Energy, which focuses on retrofitting legacy engines and assessing biofuel blends, and EMICAST, which develops emissions forecasting solutions to support regulatory compliance.
The strong interest and exchange of ideas reaffirm the growing momentum towards a more sustainable maritime future, as well as the importance of translating research into solutions that can be adopted by industry.
